Nan Farmer: My Duties as a Councillor

Nan Farmer

I am one of three councillors representing the people of Morton ward. I am a Liberal Democrat, as is Cllr Peter Farmer. As well as looking after the needs of the people of the estate I also attend a number of committees on the City Council.

As a member of the city council I have to attend evening meetings approximately every six weeks or so. These can be rather long and sometimes contentious. It isn’t unknown to finish after midnight!   (Read more)

Seatoller Close: UPDATE

We are pleased to report that the empty flats on Seatoller Close have now had their windows boarded up as requested.

It may be some time before the flats can finally be demolished, but they should now be secure and hopefully residents will have some respite from the anti-social behaviour which has been a problem in the area in the past.

In cooperation with Riverside we have identified a number of other issues, mostly caused by recent weather conditions. These include broken and raised flagstones and potholes, as well as damage to verges caused by parked cars. We hope to have these issues dealt with soon.

Action on Seatoller Close

Cllr Peter Farmer has visited Seatoller Close and has taken photos which he has sent to Riverside to encourage them to increase the security at Seatoller Close. He has asked repeatedly for this to be done over the last two or three years. He has also asked the police to ensure that they pay more attention to this area. Inspector Tony Quinn has arranged this and officers will be more vigilant in this area.   (Read more)

New Homes in Barras Close

Nan Farmer

Cllr Nan Farmer is delighted to hear from Riverside that they have set 8 March 2010 as the date for the start of the build of much-needed new rental homes. This is to replace 40 one bedroom flats which were demolished some years ago as there was little call for them today. These homes will be built to today’s standards and will be energy saving and lifetime homes. It has taken a long time but, at last, the vision is reality.

I am also currently a board member of Eden housing association  (Read more)

United Utilities Apologise for Sewerage Floods

Olwyn Luckley

Liberal Democrat Cllrs. Olwyn Luckley and Colin Farmer of Castle Ward were called to an emergency meeting in Willowholme, Carlisle on Friday, 27th November.

Liberal Democrat Conference

The Liberal Democrats have just concluded the autumn Conference in Bournemouth, during which we have set out our vision for a fresh start for Britain, delivered by our leader Nick Clegg and our outstanding Shadow Chancellor Vince Cable - the first to warn of the banking crisis and the first to see the way out.

We have reinforced our party's commitment to social justice, including lower taxes for those on low and middle incomes and scrapping tuition fees for universities - despite media reports to the contrary. We want to  (Read more)

Nick Clegg's Speech - Bournemouth 2009

Nick Clegg's keynote speech to the Liberal Democrat Autumn Conference 2009 in Bournemouth was at once a rallying cry to party activists and an appeal to those who support the party's aims but do not yet vote for us. You can watch it here.

Carlisle Liberal Democrats would like to congratulate Chris Davies on his successful re-election to the European Parliament, and we look forward to his continuing hard work on behalf of the people of the North West of England.
